early career postdoctoral researcher at the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi with a Masters in Molecular Biology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD from the Open University. She has years of experience in using molecular biology techniques to understand bacterial infections, antimicrobial resistance, and assessing the impact of vaccines.
Dr. Amulele’s interests lie in understanding how bacterial infections are transmitted, especially among neonates and young children. She is currently utilizing genomics to understand outbreaks and transmission of Klebsiella pneumoniae in neonates and infants admitted to Kenyan hospitals, and the carriage of these bacteria and their contribution to invasive infection in babies. She seeks to understand the capsular antigens, virulence, and antimicrobial resistance characteristics among these bacteria and how this can inform vaccine development and optimizing antimicrobial utilization in vulnerable children.
